Time For Summer

My daughter dances with her friend David

School is nearly over for summer, the school holds a folk dance

Sarah wears her poppies dress and dances very well

Despite her challanges with speed, and learning to not

draw flowers around her alphabet

as she did her school work, deciding to be more sloppy and go faster

she has been allowed to pass to the next grade again,

 for another year

I hope they will one day allow little children

to continue to draw little flowers on their letters

and write the letters oh so carefully and neatly

as Sarah once did...but these things will cause you to fail

a grade, and moms and dads are encouraged to stop encouraging a childs creative impulses

and we tell them to just go faster and write sloppier,

and the child will then be able

to fit in and be allowed to pass to the next grade where,

i suppose there will be more rules that don't make sense to the child,

and maybe even less sense to the one who told her she could do and be almost anything

and if it wasn't harmful to anyone, and if it was from her heart and joyful

 that she would eventually prosper.

Well now I am seriously considering the Gaskin Farm

In Tennessee, I want her to believe the sweet things I told her

I really never meant them to be a lie.
